Courtney Swain is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter/composer based in Providence, RI.

In 2021, she was awarded the Rhode Island Foundation’s Robert & Margaret MacColl Johnson Fellowship. The $25,000 grant is considered to be one of the largest no-strings-attached grants available to musicians in the US.

Courtney’s discography includes five studio albums released with her band Bent Knee, and seven albums/EPs as a solo project. The breadth in genres reflects her undefinable musical style, stemming from a mélange of influences including indie rock, grunge, singer-songwriter, folk, ambient/generative music, metal, jazz, Western classical, traditional Japanese music, and electronica. Her voice has been featured in Mortal Kombat 11 and on releases by HAKEN, Car Bomb, Childish Japes, Gatherers, Apartment Sessions, Jocie Adams, Ben Levin Group, Elder Flux, Video Game Orchestra, Guy Mendilow Ensemble, and more.

A resident of Providence since 2015, Courtney is also a part of the Rhode Island/Southern Massachusetts musical theater scene. As a pit orchestra keyboardist, sound designer, and music director, she has worked with Trinity Rep and the Wilbury Group among other organizations.

Wearing the many hats of touring musician, composer, voice coach, accompanist, and more, Courtney also entertains many non-musical interests including yoga, biking, meditation, mystery novels, cat mom, cooking, photography, drawing, watercolor, home fermentation… a list of activities which continues to grow!
