Weird "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" Arrangement
Here is my Gentle Giant-inspired arrangement of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" dedicated to Kerry Minnear. I like arranging Christmas music in interesting ways.
Buke & Gase’s “Scholars”
Buke and Gase's "Scholars" was released in early 2019 and blew me away on my first listen. Check out this innovative and excellent work of art at BukeAndGase.Bandcamp.com
Fabio Mittino & Bert Lams Live at MWM
Here are Fabio Mittino and Bert Lams (California Guitar Trio) performing pieces from their albums, "Movimenti" and "Long Ago." These albums feature beautiful compositions by George Gurdjieff and Thomas de Hartmann. Bert and Fabio are the first people to arrange this music for two guitars.
Bert and Fabio both spent several years studying and performing with Robert Fripp, guitarist of King Crimson.
Trey Gunn and Markus Reuter live at SeaProg 2019
Trey Gunn (King Crimson) and Markus Reuter (Stick Men) performed a thematic improvisation with live looping and electronic treatments. You’ll hear many layers of sound and some pre-composed motifs being traded and shared by each player. It was a surreal experience to hear these performers in person. I hope you enjoy the show!
Alex Sill’s “Experiences: Real and Imaginary”
Let's listen together with Alex Sill to his debut solo album, "Experiences: Real and Imagined."
Nik Bärtsch RONIN Live in Apache Junction, AZ
A few years ago when I started listening to Nik Baertsch, I thought I’d never have the chance to see him perform live. And then the unexpected happened: my generous friend Ken Coffman sponsored not only a solo piano concert, but just a few months later he sponsored Nik and his entire zen funk band, RONIN, to perform in Apache Junction, AZ on March 21, 2019.
Concert: Nik Bärtsch "Modul 26" Live on Solo Piano
Enjoy this live solo piano performance of "Modul 26" from the album "REA" by Nik Bärtsch's Ronin. Performed live at Stilwell Pianos in Mesa, AZ. Audio by Russ Muller Sound.
Learn "San Lorenzo" by Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays
Here’s an instructional video on how I play Pat Metheny’s “San Lorenzo,” which requires a 12-string electric guitar with a custom set of strings and a very strange tuning.
Concert: Sara Groves
Here is Sara Groves performing three live songs at Stilwell Pianos in Mesa, AZ from January 2019
Markus Reuter’s “Heartland”
Let's listen together with Markus Reuter to his latest release, a string quartet called "Heartland."
Man Man’s “Six Demon Bag”
Man Man's "Six Demon Bag" album dropped my jaw within the first few seconds of hearing it. Amazingly creative and fun. Great production and recording. Completely uninhibited.
Henry Cow’s “Western Culture”
At first, I thought Henry Cow's "Western Culture" was the worst "music" I'd ever heard. It took me years to appreciate and understand its musical complexity and richness. It's not an album you can be indifferent about, so do you love it or hate it?
Mike Keneally House Concert
Here's Mike playing 3 songs at the house concert we hosted in 2016:
1. 00:00 "Floating Face" from Boil That Dust Speck
2. 03:29 "Airport" from The Tar Tapes, Vol. 1
3. 06:26 "I Was Not Ready For You" from Dancing
Mike has played for Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Andy Partridge, Andy West, and many others. We have tons of other videos with Mike playing, talking, and just being quite wise.
Mr. Bungle’s “Disco Volante”
Mr. Bungle's "Disco Volante" is the second disc in this Jaw Droppers series that I want to highlight. It's an incredible album with many twists and turns, lots of diversity, and incredible creativity. A lot of people hate it.
The Residents’ “Animal Lover”
"Animal Lover" by The Residents is one of the most terrifying albums I've ever heard. I wanted to make a video about it as the first in a new series called "Jaw Droppers," in which we go into detail about albums that've left us slack-jawed.
